We are very happy and glad to announce an exclusive Masterclass to be held this summer in Tbilisi, Georgia! In year 2013 artist Ilona Romule launched Masterclasses in lithophane technique. This year she has agreed to follow Masterclass organizers to Georgia, but otherwise her Lithophane Masterclasses are and will be exvlusively held only at her homeland – Latvia.
„Lithophane is fine porcelain,” artist Ilona Romule characterizes the material. “Technically it looks like this: the base material is a thin, transparent porcelain plate with 1,5 mm high and inwardly directed relief. By affecting the material with light from the opposite side, it becomes clearly distinguishable in a particular shape and the depicted figures adopt a form. This illusory effect can be obtained only when working with the finest porcelain.”
